The Weekly Reframe: A simple practice that quiets the Amygdala

Supporting you to free your mind so you can live from your heart!

“My body is a garden rooted in gratitude. Thank you is the biggest poem I’ve got inside of me.”

– Sabrina Benaim

It’s that time of year again. Short days and vast dark nights, with skies that lean toward gray depending on where you live. This season naturally invites us to slow down, create coziness, and bring in more light wherever we can. Light a candle. Make a fire. Put up some Christmas lights. Let your space glow a little.
And give thanks for everything around you.

It’s human nature to want more: more possibility, more beauty, more expansion. We’re powerful creators, and this desire is part of our design. But sometimes we get so caught up in the next thing that we lose sight of the abundance we’re already living inside of. Gratitude brings us back to the present moment. It turns what we have into enough, even as it honors our natural longing to grow. It’s a beautiful paradox: appreciating what is, while still taking action to create the future.

Life dragged me kicking and screaming to gratitude. My own path to gratitude began in a lot of emotional pain and a continual feeling of “never enough.” I fought with reality for years, wishing it were different and I was different. Eventually, some wise people who had lived a little longer than me introduced me to gratitude as a daily practice. I humbled myself and committed: one full year of writing down what I was grateful for, every single day, shared with a small circle of others doing the same.

Witnessing not just my own gratitude but theirs, what they noticed, what lit them up, what they were learning to appreciate, transformed me. Slowly, the fog of “not enough” began to lift. I started to see the goodness inside me and in the world that had been present all along, waiting patiently for me to notice.

And right now, I give thanks for all of you. This dear community who chooses to read these words each week or when you feel called to. You are deeply appreciated and loved.

A Reflection for This Weekend:
Take a quiet moment and ask yourself:

  • What am I most grateful for today?

  • What goodness is present in my life that I may have overlooked?

  • Where is life already supporting me in ways I haven’t acknowledged?

Step By Step,

Jessie
