“My body is a garden rooted in gratitude. Thank you is the biggest poem I’ve got inside of me.”

How to Practice Gratitude When Life Feels Like "Never Enough": A Daily Practice That Changed Everything
The Season of Slowing Down and Creating Light
It's that time of year again. Short days and vast dark nights, with skies that lean toward gray depending on where you live. This season naturally invites us to slow down, create coziness, and bring in more light wherever we can.
Light a candle. Make a fire. Put up some Christmas lights. Let your space glow a little.
And give thanks for everything around you.
The Beautiful Paradox of Gratitude and Growth
It's human nature to want more: more possibility, more beauty, more expansion. We're powerful creators, and this desire is part of our design. But sometimes we get so caught up in the next thing that we lose sight of the abundance we're already living inside of.
Gratitude brings us back to the present moment. It turns what we have into enough, even as it honors our natural longing to grow. It's a beautiful paradox: appreciating what is, while still taking action to create the future.
My Journey: From "Never Enough" to Daily Gratitude
Life dragged me kicking and screaming to gratitude. My own path to gratitude began in a lot of emotional pain and a continual feeling of "never enough." I fought with reality for years, wishing it were different and I was different.
Eventually, some wise people who had lived a little longer than me introduced me to gratitude as a daily practice. I humbled myself and committed: one full year of writing down what I was grateful for, every single day, shared with a small circle of others doing the same.
What Changed Through a Year of Daily Gratitude
Witnessing not just my own gratitude but theirs, what they noticed, what lit them up, what they were learning to appreciate, transformed me. Slowly, the fog of "not enough" began to lift. I started to see the goodness inside me and in the world that had been present all along, waiting patiently for me to notice.
This practice didn't erase my desire for growth or change. Instead, it created a foundation of appreciation that made growth feel generative rather than desperate.
How to Start a Daily Gratitude Practice
If you're feeling stuck in scarcity thinking or constantly focused on what's missing, a structured gratitude practice can help shift your perspective. Here's how to begin:
The One-Year Gratitude Commitment
Write down what you're grateful for every single day
Share your gratitude with a small circle of trusted people also doing the practice
Witness not just your own gratitude, but what others notice and appreciate
Continue for one full year to allow deep transformation
Why Community Gratitude Works
Practicing gratitude in community amplifies the transformation. When you witness what others appreciate, you begin to notice similar goodness in your own life. The collective practice creates accountability and inspiration, especially on days when gratitude feels difficult to access.
Gratitude as a Bridge Between Present and Future
Gratitude doesn't mean settling or giving up on your dreams. Instead, it creates a stable foundation from which to build the life you desire.
When we appreciate what is while taking action toward what could be, we move from a place of enoughness rather than lack. This shift in energy changes everything: our decisions, our relationships, our resilience, and our capacity to create lasting change.
A Practice for Right Now
And right now, I give thanks for all of you. This dear community who chooses to read these words each week or when you feel called to. You are deeply appreciated and loved.
Reflection Questions for This Weekend
Take a quiet moment and ask yourself:
What am I most grateful for today?
What goodness is present in my life that I may have overlooked?
Where is life already supporting me in ways I haven't acknowledged?
