60-Second Mind Shift: Who are you Willing to be when time on earth is limited?
Supporting you to free your mind so you can live from your heart!
“Look for magic. It’s there all the time.”
– Rachel Furman
Who are you willing to be when time is limited here on Earth?
The woman who spoke the words above is still thriving six years after being given just two years to live following a terminal colon cancer diagnosis. Her perspective is a reminder that life’s beauty often lies in the smallest moments.
She goes on to say: “Sometimes, magic is as simple as finding a parking spot. Or seeing a baby smile. Focus on that. Appreciate the littlest things. I’ve gained so much. I’m a different person.”
The truth is, none of us know how much time we have left. This message has been showing up for me from different directions lately, through Rachel’s quote and also in an exercise I came across.
The exercise called “Six Months to Live,” invites you to sit quietly, close your eyes, and imagine a scene where a doctor has just told you that you have six months left to live.
You then ask yourself these questions:
If you knew you had six months to live -
What would I be doing?
Where would I be living?
Who would you I with?
What would I change?
What would I add?
What would I eliminate?
As I reflect on these questions, I notice that the biggest shift for me isn’t about where I’d be or what I’d be doing. The real shift I see is in who I’m being.
I notice when I project out into that liminal space where I have just six months left - I am being far less judgmental, even while acknowledging that my brain is wired to judge as a way of staying safe. And with that awareness, I find myself letting go of judgment and in a state of wonderment, awe and presence. Like Rachel says, I see magic in everything. I am being love. I am being support. I am being gentle, kind, soft, and spacious within myself.
I am being forgiving. I am holding others and myself with goodwill, knowing we are all doing our best. I feel free, because I have no agenda for anyone. I return - again and again to the truth of who they are, and who I am.
I invite you to hold these questions in your heart and see what comes up for you.
I Affirm: Today, In Rachel's honor, I am willing to look for magic.
Step By Step,
Jessie
